How Good is Word of Mouth Marketing?

I have heard through a good friend that a coffee shop is experimenting with using bloggers as the main media of spreading a marketing message.

I believe the idea behind it is that they would start with just a select number of bloggers, tell them that the coffee shop is offering a free drink which can be availed by doing something and the marketing experts who thought of it would then estimate how many people availed of the free drink. From that they would be able to gauge the effectiveness of blogging as a marketing tool.

With or without this experiment, I believe blogging should be one of the main tools used by advertising and marketing firms whenever they are conducting a campaign. Bloggers don’t just tell their fellow bloggers but also their friends and family members. And we all know that once a thing is online, it spreads easily like wild fire.
