Which of the two do you use more often for your instant messaging needs?
For me, I find that I use Yahoo! Messenger frequently because that’s what my friends are using. So each time that they want to have a chat, it is YM that I open up.
On the other hand, for business related stuff, it is Skype that most people prefer. When I have to talk to someone from the US or the UK, even Australia, I use Skype and that’s what they request for me to use. So now I have this notion that when I see Skype, I immediately think of business. And when I see YM, I think of less formal talks with my friends.
Personally I like YM better maybe because I feel more relaxed or casual while using it. Skype for me reminds me of work.
